David Julia, Guitar virtuoso, singer/songwriter and food blogger!
So tell us in what part of the First Coast do you reside now and how long have you lived there?
The Southern part! lol Actually I live (when I’m home) in the rolling hills of Lake County. I have lived there for 23 years.
When did you know you had an interest in music?
I started out as a drummer at age 5 in our family band, and moved over to guitar around 6.
Are you currently in a band (or bands)?
Yes only the DJB, I feel it’s important to focus on being the best band leader I can be. I also put time and effort into my solo shows, at times, there are moments with the audience that are just magical!
Who is your favorite musician or what musician influenced you the most?
My friend Bob Margolin! He played guitar for Muddy Waters and is the musical director for the Pinetop Perkins Foundation. The PPF teaches young Blues-loving musicians their craft with Guitar, Bass, Keyboards and Harmonica workshops by seasoned professionals.
All the great immortal roots musicians. And most of all, Florida Musicians that gave the young guy some stage time, Damon Fowler, Albert Castiglia, JP Soars, RJ Howson, Selwyn and many more.
Are there any specific memories or highlights of your career that you would like to tell us about?
Getting my band booked on the Legendary Rhythm Blues Cruise is quite a highlight for me. I’m happy for the guys too, Curtis, Jason and First Coast’s favorite Saxman Jeremy King! This October!!
What area bands or musicians are at the top of your list to go out to hear?
I love supporting local musicians, especially those who push the envelope
Do you have a favorite venue that you enjoy playing locally?
I enjoy them all, I love playing and entertaining people. If it were only two people, it’s just more intimate and that’s fine with me. Some places are nicer than others, but I enjoy each and every one.
What is the best way for musicians to network?
I’m the worst! I’m terrible at networking, at marketing, at booking, at all that! All that takes so much time. With work, music, writing & performing, and school I have very little time.
Are there any local venue owners/managers that you would like to rave about?
As far as managers go, I have not run into a difficult manager. I feel that musicians in Florida are blessed with how many quality venues we have.
If you had a question you would like to ask another musician what would it be?
I would love to ask Chuck Mangoine how he developed such a great ear for melodies.
Personal hobbies or interests?
Fishing, football, BBQ’s with the family
What’s the best thing for you about the First Coast?
Music scene!
Where and how can folks learn more about you and/or your band?
You can find out more about me, including my original songs, performances, and show dates on his website: David Julia Music, David JuliaInstagram , David JuliaFacebook, or on David JuliaSpotify
Is there anything else that you want to tell everyone reading this?
Be on the lookout for my national tour in October with Gabe Stillman for the Official Pre-Blues Cruise Tour.
