Theatre Jacksonville Presents Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, Opening April 18

Theatre Jacksonville, 2032 San Marco Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 3, 2025) –Theatre Jacksonville ushers in spring with a production of the hysterically twisted Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, opening on April 18. Loosely based on Bram Stoker’s novel, this laugh-out-loud romp features five actors who play more than a dozen roles — including sisters, a fiancé, a famed female vampire hunter and the dangerous and sexy Count Dracula.

“We often follow our more serious theater offerings with light-hearted hilarity, and this play does not disappoint,” said Theatre Jacksonville Executive Director Sarah Boone. “The witty nature, physical gags and clever wordplay of this over-the-top tale guarantee our audiences an unforgettable experience.”

Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors will be directed by Ron Shreve and features Jordan Born, Emily Johns, Rachel Johns, Katie Johnston, and Christopher Watson. Shows will run from April 18 through May 4, with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and three matinee performances at 2 p.m. on April 27 and May 3 and 4. New to this year, the last Saturday performance of each show will be a 2 p.m. matinee.

After Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, the final Theatre Jacksonville Mainstage season production will be Desperate Measures by Peter Kellogg and David Friedman, opening June 6 — a witty and wild new musical comedy serves up a colorful cast of Wild West-inspired characters who intervene in the fate of the dangerously handsome Johnny Blood.

Also recently announced, Theatre Jacksonville will undertake its second collaboration with The Florida Theatre to present A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum in concert on August 23 and 24 – starring Tony Award winner Cady Huffman. Tickets are available by visiting www.floridatheatre.com.

Theatre Jacksonville Wraps Up 105th Season With Musical Comedy Desperate Measures

Theatre Jacksonville is ending its 105th consecutive season with a delightful musical comedy, Desperate Measures, opening on June 6. Based on the book by Peter Kellogg, who also wrote the lyrics, and with music by award-winning composer David Friedman, this witty and wild musical transforms Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure plot into a Western setting complete with a hot-headed young cowboy. The dangerously handsome Johnny Blood puts his fate into the hands of a colorful cast of characters when his life is on the line. In 2018, Desperate Measures won Best Musical at the Outer Critics Circle and OBA awards and Best Music and Lyrics at the Drama Desk Awards.

“There’s no better way to finish the season than to delight audiences with a gleeful production like Desperate Measures,” said Theatre Jacksonville Executive Director Sarah Boone. “It has been a terrific year for our organization, and celebrating with joy and laughter on the stage is an ideal way to celebrate the beginning of summer.”

Desperate Measures will be directed by Daniel Austin and features Aly Blakewell, Alec Hadden, Brennan Moritz, Morgan Perry, Chris Robertson and Neal Thorburn.
