Trouble in Mind – Players By The Sea Theater

Players by the Sea 106 N 6th St. Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250

May 10, 11, 17,18, 24 and 25 @ 8 pm

A talented and experienced Black actress has been cast in Chaos in Belleville, an anti-lynching play set to open on Broadway. She’s paid her dues throughout the years, playing stereotypical supporting roles in second-rate shows, and is ready for her star turn.

Chaos in Belleville, written by a white playwright, might not be quite as enlightened a piece as she’s been hoping for — but that doesn’t mean it won’t sell out. And selling out is the question at the heart of Alice Childress’s comedy-drama.

A cast of multigenerational Black actors rehearse under the purview of a white director and stage manager, and as the rehearsal process unfolds, theatre conventions and racial politics collide, resulting in a surprisingly funny yet deeply piercing look at the entertainment industry.

Movement Stories

A triple bill dance performance, featuring THREE world premieres by Jacksonville choreographers Emily Cargill, Theresa Jimmerson and Hilary Libman.

Cargill, Jimmerson and Libman join creative forces to present Jacksonville audiences with personal and unique narratives that are inspired by discovering the inner child, the awakening of the human psyche and navigating misplaced trust as an outsider looking in.

Each choreographer’s creative process consists of recounting, sifting and navigating through their own messy and beautiful journeys as humans, women, friends, mothers and artists. Audiences will witness and experience three unique choreographic voices and be presented with three different and compelling approaches to dancemaking.
