Scotie Cousin has become all the rage around the First Coast with his eclectic style of art. With a variety of work displayed from the airport to the beach, Scotie has brought a lot of joy to our community through his self expression and art.

What’s your name and what fills your time?

Scotie Cousin. Hi, I’m Scotie Cousin a local artist living in Atlantic Beach. My time is mostly filled creating art that I dream up in my head. My artistic talent is something I was blessed with, and I don’t know why, but I just love thinking outside the box when it comes to creating the creatures that you see all over town.

Anything special going on for this summer?

Nothing more interesting this year going on than usual. It doesn’t really matter what time of the year it is for me when it comes to making new series of pieces. I always have an unending supply of ideas that keep me busy and I love doing what I do so it’s not seasonal for me!

How do you like living on the First Coast?

I love living here on the First Coast. The people are super friendly and probably for me it’s so cool that people love my art for what it is and that really makes me good. I feel accepted here and I appreciate the way First Coasters love my art.

Any hobbies or interests worth telling us about?

There are certain artists who have inspired me and one thing that I do have interest in is teaching people how to tap into their inner creative ability and make art that comes from their heart and from their head without worrying whether people like it or not. I like making things because I think it’s neat and hopefully others will enjoy it. That’s how I feel artists should think and that they should be able to express their creativity in whatever way they deem fit.

Anything else that you would like to tell the community?

If anything I would tell people to allow art to make them feel good. Whether it’s visual art or music or dance or written poetry or anything else, never look at art and not appreciate it. If it’s not something that makes you feel good then move away without judgement and find something that instantly gives your entire being a fun or happy or peaceful feeling. The arts in general are so important to understanding how different cultures have an impact on the entire world so just embrace what you love and allow it add value to your life!
