Battle of Bloody Mose Reenactment

Description

Reenactors on Saturday June 27 performing the Battle of Bloody Mose at Fort Mose Historic State Park. This year marked the 286th anniversary of this battle.

This was a pivotal 1740 battle during the War of Jenkins’ Ear where a Spanish-led force of Black militia, Spanish soldiers, and Native American allies launched a surprise dawn attack on British troops occupying the fort. The Spanish decisively defeated the British, who had captured the fort days earlier as part of an invasion of St. Augustine, forcing the British to retreat and ending the siege of the city. The battle is named for the high British casualties, with roughly 75 killed and many captured, while Spanish losses were light. The battle was fought on  June 26, 1740
