Description

Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM) is a community-based nonprofit serving low-income residents living or working in Jacksonville’s Beaches communities. BEAM helps neighbors prevent homelessness and build stability through emergency rent and utility assistance, client-choice food pantries in Jacksonville Beach and Mayport, fresh produce from its Grace Garden, nutrition education, benefits application assistance and case management for single parents.

Seasonal programs provide back-to-school essentials and Thanksgiving food. Supported by individuals, faith communities, businesses and local organizations, BEAM works with other service providers to coordinate care and guide neighbors toward self-reliance.

Q&A

It's a pleasure to meet you. Tell us a little bit about your background and your journey, and what you're focused on today

BEAM began in 1985 when local churches came together to coordinate help for neighbors facing financial emergencies. More than 40 years later, that spirit of neighbors helping neighbors remains at the heart of our work, supported by individuals, businesses, faith communities, volunteers and local organizations. Today, our focus is on helping Beaches families and seniors meet basic needs, prevent homelessness and move toward lasting stability.
Who do you serve and what makes you different?

BEAM serves low-income individuals and families living or working in Jacksonville’s Beaches communities, including seniors on fixed incomes, single parents and households living paycheck to paycheck. Our service area includes ZIP codes 32082, 32224, 32227, 32228, 32233, 32250 and 32266. All active-duty military members are eligible for food assistance regardless of ZIP code. What makes BEAM different is the combination of immediate help and ongoing support—from food pantries and emergency rent and utility assistance to specialized programs for seniors and single parents.
What would you attribute to your success, and how can people get to know you better?

BEAM’s strength comes from a community that consistently shows up for its neighbors. Dedicated volunteers, generous donors, committed staff and strong local partnerships make this work possible. Getting to know BEAM can start with a visit to jaxbeam.org, a tour, a volunteer opportunity or a trip to one of our three thrift stores, where purchases help fund our programs. There are many ways to be part of the mission, and every contribution matters.
Anything else that you'd like to add?

Financial hardship isn’t always visible. A neighbor may be working, raising children or managing on a fixed income and still struggle to afford groceries or keep up with rent. BEAM is here to offer help with dignity and respect. If you need assistance—or know someone who does—visit jaxbeam.org to learn more. Sharing information about available resources can be a meaningful way to help.
What's the best part about living on the First Coast?

The beaches and natural beauty are special, but the people make the First Coast feel like home. There’s a strong sense of community here—a willingness to lend a hand, support a local cause and care for someone going through a difficult time. At BEAM, we see that generosity in action every day.
