Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Music Series –Delighted to sea you each week, from our neighborhood close to the Sea. Sea you Around!

Howdy Howdy Folks.  This week I’m hailing from Jack Russell Park in the heart of Atlantic Beach.  The weather is amazing and the light is good.  I’m not even running against the wind here.  But I do have to fit my busking set in between the rousing tunes of the ice cream truck and joyful slapping of skateboards on the skatepark behind me.  The ballfield, City Hall and the Police Station are just across the parking lot and even though we are blocks from the beach, we enjoy the shade of live oaks and busty palm trees and the cinderblock racquetball court.  Check out the mural of dolphins and doves and turtles.  Life is Good and it’s definitely a Beach around these parts.  I’m so glad you’re here.  How about some tunes?  Live, unedited and flawless.  Lol.

This week’s Set List for your Listening (and viewing) enjoyment:

01:28    Stephanie—Debi Jean

This song is about TIME, wanting to use it wisely, but wasting time in the most egregious way.  However, this chick pulls it out right at the end.  Hmmmmm.  “She bought a one-way ticket to Timbuktu and was never seen at home again….” When I wrote this song, I didn’t know anyone named Stephanie.  But over the course of the next year I met numerous women named Stephanie, but like all original songs and art, there’s a piece of the author in there.  A Rose by any other name, smells as sweet.

06:20    You Can’t Always Get What You Want—Rolling Stones

Bummer.  I wish knowing this maxim could make me feel better when I’m not getting what I want.  Mick Jagger says it best—“If you try sometime, you just might find, YOU GET WHAT YOU NEED.”  And now I will try to convince my heart this is true while I serenade you with a Stones song Debi Jean Style.

13:55    Lordy Man—Debi Jean

In this song, the main character can’t get away too soon.  “Bust out that champagne bottle, I’m going on a voyage to the moon”.  Talk about escapism!  The thing about songwriting is that you get glimpses of inner madness that might surprise you but oh what fun to express yourself with a ruckus little ditty that tells it like it is.

I just noticed that both my originals this week are about taking off.  But I’m going to wait until next summer to travel.  I love autumn and winter here on the First Coast.

Happy Trails!  Until we meet again, I wish you peace and love and live music.

Yours Truly,

Debi Jean
