Eddie Pitts. For the past 16 years, I’m up early every day doing the surf report, 911 Surf Report It’s updated 2 to 3 times daily so surfing, shooting photos & video, fill my time.
Tell us a little about your background story and how you got here.
I grew up in Jacksonville. The older guys in my neighborhood were surfing and I got to tag along. Surfing started my love affair with the beaches of Jacksonville and in 1978 I moved to Neptune Beach.
Is anything special going on for this summer?
I’m on the beach every day before sunrise, shooting photos & videos of local surfers. A second or sometimes third report is done in the afternoon. The photos & video clips are incorporated into each surf report.
Any passion projects or focus for the summer?
That’s a good question because my passions in life let me do what I love all year round. Surfing, shooting photography and video are my passions.
Any hobbies or interests worth telling us about?
I love to travel, mostly to the Tropics for surfing but I’ve been all over the US with my wife doing non-surfer things, like New York City, Vegas, Colorado, Canada, Carolinas, and The Keys.
What’s one thing (funny, different, cool) that many might not know about you?
I have almost 4,000 Youtube videos & 4 Live Beach Cams at the pier that are streaming on YouTube 24/7 365 days a year.
How do you like living on the First Coast?
I love living in Neptune Beach, it’s centrally located and it’s a perfect location for my lifestyle. I have a love of the ocean that makes our community almost like a paradise to me. My life here is full of great friends and I get to surf and photograph surfing almost every day, I just couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.
Anything else that you would like to tell the community?
I’m not a guy that needs change. I’ve been married for 43 years, I’ve been surfing 55 years, and I have known my best friends for 60 years. We talk almost every day, we always have and we always will.
