PAStA Member and Potter, Laura Burgess, Feature Artist for November

214 Charlotte Street, St. Augustine

From utilitarian work to whimisical ceramic creations, Laura Burgess’ pottery will be featured in the North Gallery of the award-winning gallery, PAStA, on 214 Charlotte St., downtown St. Augustine.

The Professional Artists of St. Augustine (PAStA) Fine Art Gallery, of 214 Charlotte Street, St. Augustine, will feature member artist and PAStA marketing director, Laura Burgess’s unique take of the ceramic arts, for the month of November. She will showcase wall sculptures, ceramic masks, and her very popular Ugli Fish creations in North Gallery with an opening reception on Friday, Nov. 3, during the First Friday Artwalk from 5 – 9 pm. The Flajberries will be providing music and gallery members will provide food and beverage for attendees. The event is free. Laura’s pottery will be on display and for sale during the entire month of November.

“Call me a mud mamma, a dirty girl, or the princess of pots, if you will, but once you try pottery, addiction is highly likely,” Laura commented. “The field of ceramics is so vast that I will forever be a student, but the thing I love so much about this art form is how it combines the elements of earth, air, water, and fire to make something truly unique; something that possibly could be dug up in an archaeological dig some hundred years or more. But meanwhile, its an art form that brings beauty and joy into your life every day, especially when it’s in the form of a favorite coffee cup.”

Laura is currently the owner of Laura Burgess Marketing, a public relations and marketing firm for the public safety and outdoor markets. She graduated from Penn State with a BA in Advertising and an MBA from the Franklin Pierce University of New Hampshire. She received an associates degree in Ceramic Studies from the New Hampshire Institute of Art. She has been making pots and sculpture for over twenty years. As part of her exhibit, she will bring in a new school of Ugli Fish; the ceramic, indoor/outdoor wall hanging fish in new patterns and colors. Her Ugli Fish collection has been a best-seller at the gallery.

Slowdive will tour North America this fall in support of their latest album everything is alive, with a stop at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre among just 10 Stateside headlining dates.

Released last September on Dead Oceans, everything is alive is the band’s fifth album, and the follow-up to their 2017 self-titled. Both records were met with near-universal acclaim, but the mesmerizing Slowdive, in particular, sparked the band’s resurgence—it was their first new full-length in 22 years.
