Full Name: Tori Nance

Thanks for your time. So, tell us in what part of the First Coast you reside now and how long you have lived there?

I have lived in Jacksonville, Florida, for 35 years! My whole life, I wanted to see the music scene become what it is today.

When did you know you had an interest in music?

I wrote my first song when I was 6, using an old piano we found on the street.

Did you start with any specific instrument and migrate to other instruments?

My first instrument was guitar, but I quickly progressed to drums, and I am now proud to say that I also play drums professionally. The guitar came back into my life when I decided I wanted to pursue songwriting.

Are you currently in a band (or bands)?

Tori Nance Band, which I have grown to over 70,000 followers on social media and manage myself.

Who is your favorite musician, or what musician influenced you the most?

When I saw Joan Jett at Warped Tour in the early 2000s, it was the first time it dawned on me that women could make a lifetime career in music.

Are there any specific memories or highlights of your career that you would like to tell us about?

Playing Porchfest is a huge accomplishment for me, as well as releasing my second album this January, entitled “Who Am I.”

What area bands or musicians are at the top of your list to go out to hear?

Blossomin Bone, Rambler Kane, Charlie Shuck, Christina Wagner, too many to name.

Do you have a favorite venue that you enjoy playing locally?

The Walrus is where I am choosing to host my album release party on Jan 3

Do you have any gigs coming up to tell our readers about?

Nov 8 Porchfest and Jan 3 The Walrus

What is the best way for musicians to network?

I use Instagram, but there are many different platforms available! Going to an open mic night (like the one I host on Monday nights at Keg and Coin is also a great way)

Are there any local venue owners/managers that you would like to rave about?

Christina Wagner (RainDogs) and Albatross.

If you had a question you would like to ask another musician, what would it be?

What is your “why” when things get tough?

Personal hobbies or interests? Family?

I am also a teacher and a professional drummer.

What’s the best thing for you about living on the First Coast?

The beach! Being warm almost all year-round.

Where and how can folks learn more about you and/or your band? Links to your website?

IG FB TikTok YouTube torinancemusic or torinancemusic.com
