Welcome to 90 Days Of Summer! What’s your name and what fills your time?
Wayne Chattaway. I’m a true Islander having been born at Beaches Hospital and raised. I am a lifelong member of the ARCVLSC. Having volunteered zillions of hours guarding the beach. After moving inland for the first time to go to FSU, I returned to the beaches to have and raise my four children. I’ve spent most of my career in tech having founded The Anti in 2017. My time is spent with my wife, my four children and friends doing beach things. Surf. Food and drinks at the Corner.
Anything special going on for this summer?
As I time this I’m still dripping from teaching a Surf Camp for HEAL. It’s my favorite two days of the year teaching these amazing kids the best sport in the world. This summer will start with my wife finishing her battle with breast cancer. She has been a superwoman throughout, and completes most of her treatments in mid July. She is 100% cancer free. Thank God! Get checked Gals!!! After that, we are off to our house in Waynesville (Yep, Waynesville) for a month and then visit family in Alaska. Basically, avoiding the heat and celebrating life with Sue, family, and friends!
Any hobbies or interests worth telling us about?
My friends know what I like to do. I am a chef with a bartender problem. Or a bartender with a chef problem. I love creating new drinks and new meals for others’ enjoyment.
What’s one thing (funny, different, cool) that many might not know about you?
I am a huge fan of meditation. Not quite ready to be a monk. They have to give too much up! I love simply taking a pause from my hectic day to just breathe.
How do you like living on the First Coast?
I have had lots of opportunities to live in different parts of the world. I instead choose to LIVE here, and visit everywhere else. I have millions of miles in the air, but there is always a return trip to JAX. The beach. The people…or at least the OGs. The local establishments. I feel very blessed to call the First Coast my home.
Anything else that you would like to tell the community?
Show gratitude that you live here. Most of the people that live here now did not live here when I was growing up. The secret is out. No more telling people that our best restaurant is Applebees to discourage them from moving here.
