“Vanishing Atlantic Beach”
The idea for these new paintings came about when I was riding through Atlantic Beach a few months ago and was surprised when I rode past the location of one of my favorite houses on Ocean Blvd. and it wasn’t there anymore! It had been a week previously, but now it was an empty lot.
I began thinking of the regularity of these tear-downs and how our cityscape had changed so much, even in the last decade!
I decided to try to capture some of the small and (I think) charming homes, especially in our Historic District before they vanish under the wrecking ball. The houses I chose were substantially the same size as originally built without major renovations, as far as I could tell.
Happily, I found that there are a lot of small, charming houses still here. Larger houses are indeed proliferating, but our town has a mixture of periods, sizes, and types, making our streets interesting and appealing.
Along with ‘Vanishing Atlantic Beach” houses are a variety of other places I have painted lately. I hope you enjoy viewing my work. Let me know what you think!
All paintings are primarily in pastel, which is like chalk. All surfaces are fine quality on acid-free papers with museum-quality glass!
