As a family and wedding photographer, I spend most of my time chasing the energy of weddings and families here in Jacksonville and the Ponte Vedra Beach area.
I’m usually looking to capture those genuine smiles, quick moments, and heartfelt connections that turn into sweet memories.
But this morning, I needed a quiet break from editing and the computer screen. I grabbed my 400mm and a 1.4x extender and headed out to catch the sunrise. I wanted to see the horizon that you can’t capture with a standard lens-that massive, compressed look where the sun feels like it’s right on front of you.
When the sun finally broke, it was actually overwhelming. The humidity in the air made the colors so intense they almost looked fake on the back of my camera. I actually ended up pulling the saturation back a little bit just to show the real texture of the clouds rather than just the neon orange.
Right as I was shooting, this single bird drifted across the sun. It was one of those rare, perfectly still moments where everything just lined up. It was a great reminder to slow down and remember how blessed we are to live in the First Coast.
Whether shooting a wedding or a landscape, it’s all about being patient, being present and enjoying the moment, which reminds me why I love so much what I do.
