Q&A

It's a pleasure to meet you. Tell us a little bit about your background and your journey, and what you're focused on today

With a background in marketing, creativity has always been a part of my life. When I moved back to St. Augustine in 2020, I began exploring photography as another way to express that creativity. It's given me a chance to connect with my surroundings, stop and appreciate a beautiful scene, and see familiar places in a different light. More recently, I've had the opportunity to exhibit my work at the Art Collective of St. Augustine. It's been a wonderful and unexpected experience, and I'm excited to see where it takes me.
Who do you serve and what makes you different?

I think my photographs speak to people who have a connection to St. Augustine, whether they've lived here for years or have wonderful memories of visiting. Growing up here has given me a deep appreciation for the city, and I think that comes through in my photography. Of course, I love photographing the historic landmarks, but sometimes it's the light on a building, a reflection after the rain, or the way a familiar place looks completely different that makes me stop and take notice. I think what makes my photography different is simply my perspective and the way I see this city.
What would you attribute to your success, and how can people get to know you better?

I think it's simply that I photograph what I love. I don't go out thinking about what might be popular or what people will want to see. I just photograph the things that catch my eye, and it's been wonderful to discover that so many people enjoy them, too.If you happen to see me walking along the bayfront with my beagle, Sophie, or wandering the streets of downtown St. Augustine, please stop and say hello! You can also follow me on Facebook and Instagram for a little glimpse of how I see this special part of the world, visit www.christycapturessta.com, or see my photography in person at the Art Collective of St. Augustine.
Anything else that you'd like to add?

One of the things I never expected when I started sharing my photography was how much I'd enjoy hearing from people about their own memories of St. Augustine. Someone will see a photograph and tell me about growing up here, a special trip they took, or a place that means something to their family. I love those stories. It's a wonderful feeling to know that a photograph I've taken has brought back a happy memory for someone.
What's the best part about living on the First Coast?

Oh, where do I begin? I love that I can wake up in the morning and be at the beach or downtown in time to watch the sunrise. And if I feel like catching a sunset, I can do that, too. We have so many beautiful parks, beaches, and natural areas right here, along with all the history that makes St. Augustine so special. And the people! There are so many genuinely lovely people here. I've always loved calling St. Augustine home, and I can't imagine being anywhere else.
