The Professional Artists of St. Augustine (P.A.St.A.) Fine Art Gallery, of 214 Charlotte Street, St. Augustine, proudly announce new artist, James “Jimmy” Reynolds to its membership. Jimmy hails from the idyllic area of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where the Chesapeake Bay is not only an inspiration for many artists, but holds a long-standing tradition of water crafts and lifestyles.
Jimmy studied fine arts at the University of Delaware with a focus on printmaking and photography. He has been painting professionally for 20-years. During his career as an educator where he instructed adults with mental illnesses, and children with a variety of learning difficulties, Jimmy’s hands-on academic and arts-based educational activities provided many students with an important outlet for their creative energies. He founded the Radcliffe Creek School Seadogs Boatbuilding program while an instructor at Radcliffe. He was the art director at Radcliff Creek School from 2004 until his retirement to paint full time in 2010.
In 2021, Jimmy founded the Choptank Tolomato Legacy Project (CTLP), a 501(c) (3) arts education, non-profit to bring historical and environmentally focused public arts experiences to rural communities of both the Upper Eastern Shore of Maryland and North East Florida. In 2022, CTLP facilitated the creation of a series of community created murals in the Chesapeake region. He has plans to bring this same energy and expertise in public arts to St. John’s County in the Fall of 2023.
Jimmy’s energetic painting style reveals life on the water, whether from the viewpoint of a working boat or the comfort of a beach chair. Bold colors and expressive brushstrokes bring to life his scenes of working boats, wildlife, docks and coastal towns, whether from the Eastern Shore or North East Florida. Jimmy lives with his wife, daughter and two dogs under the spacious limbs of old live oak trees in Elkton.

I did not connect with clay as an artistic outlet until mid-life. During a hectic and demanding career, while juggling family, job and my MBA, I needed a healthy outlet to release my frustrations while appealing to my sorely under-utilized creative needs.
One summer class gave me the impetus to redirect what little down-time I had into punching, pulling, coiling, pinching, slapping, and throwing this amazing and malleable material into anything my imagination desired. I found therapy through clay.
In the years since, I have received an Associate’s Degree from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire, and set up my first studio in a basement of our house. Currently, my studio has moved above ground – to my garage, but includes a wheel, large Skutt kiln, slab roller and an array of clay and glazes that would make a chameleon dizzy. I am a proud member of the Professional Artists of St. Augustine Fine Art Gallery since October of 2021.
I work with a variety of clays and glazes – from mid-temp stoneware and shiny glazes to low-fire and matte underglazes. I find inspiration in nature, children’s stories and fables, and my own untamed imagination!
