This week during the “Blue Hour,” I was out with my camera, but I wasn’t actually looking at the sky at first. I was focused on the palm trees, scanning the foliage for some of our local tree ducks. If you’ve spent enough time on the First Coast, you know those whistling ducks love to perch high up, and I was determined to find them nesting.
While I was searching, I noticed the moon was beginning to rise. The sky was a deep, perfect blue, and the light was too good to ignore. I decided to switch gears, locking my focus on the moon and adjusting my settings to bring out the sharp details of its surface. Right as I pressed the shutter, a mysterious traveler entered the frame. A lone bird swept across the sky, creating a perfect silhouette against the moon glow. I didn’t plan the timing, and I certainly wasn’t expecting a guest, but it turned a simple Ponte Vedra Beach Landscape moon photo into a moment of pure serenity.
It was a great reminder that while I usually go out with a specific subject in mind, nature often has a better script. Sometimes, you just have to hold your focus and let the mystery fly right into the frame.
