Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Music Series–delighted to come to you each week from our beautiful neighborhood beside the Sea. See You Around!

How are y’all doing?  I’m hunkering down in The Castle, while the dark & stormy night passes through.  There’s no better time than the present to do something that raises your mood. For me, that would be picking up my guitar and weeping for a minute or two.  Then I say to myself, “Self.  Buck Up!  Get your head in gear, out of other places where the sun don’t shine, etc.  Write a song about dancing on the tables, even if you don’t really feel like dancing.  Grin & bear it.  And pretty soon my frown turns upside down.  And I start counting my blessings.  Just in time for Thanksgiving.  This week I have a BLUE set for you, meaning that every song has the word, BLUE, in the title.

This week’s set list for your listening and viewing enjoyment:

00:40    Get These Blues in Hand—Debi Jean

This was my first attempt to write a blues song back in 2020.  It turned into an ode to my guitar all by itself.  That’s just how the muse operates here–just comes flitting along like a butterfly just barely out of reach.  Sometimes I have to strrrrrrrretch to access the juice, but you get to choose to accept or not.  My work always comes out in my voice in my country folky way.  So I give you—Debi Jean Style Blues.  GROOVY Baby.  Does this feel like the blues to you?

“Believe me, I’m doing the best I can.  Old Man Time, can’t we just be friends?”

05:28    Tangled Up in Blue—Bob Dylan

The best part of creating music for me is the STORY.  I’m a troubadour going from neighborhood to neighborhood singing, playing guitar, and writing, but now I’m online and our neighborhood stretches from Sea to Sea and beyond.  This song is a proper story about a relationship that spanned many years and circumstances.   “We always did feel the same, We just saw it from a different point of view,                                                                                                 Tangled Up in Blue”

12:50     Blue Christmas—Elvis

This is the first Christmas song of the year.  You say, Let us enjoy Thanksgiving first.  But I know you’re thinking about Santa, especially if you’ve been good all year.

“You’ll be doing all right, with your Christmas of white,

But I’ll have a blue, blue, blue, blue Christmas.”

I won’t lie—I prefer Life at the Beach—and if it has to be blue, so be it.

Peace and Love to you wherever you may be.  And thanks for tuning in.

Yours Truly,

Debi Jean
