Johnny Pop Brown has been a permanent fixture in the local seafood industry for twenty years. Whether shucking oysters at Sliders Oyster Bar or cutting fresh fish at Safe Harbor for instant distribution, when Chris Wooten tells us that “Every Plate Has A Story,” there’s a good chance that Jonathan Alan Brown is a part of that story somewhere!
An integral part of Sliders ambiance, everyone loves JPB!

Johnny Pop Brown

My name is Jonathan Alan Brown, but most call Me Johnny Brown or Johnny Pop, along with many other nicknames over the years… I was born and raised in Duval County. My formative years were in fairytail land in Cedar Hills on Tom Thumb Drive to near age 15 on the Westside, and moved to Atlantic Beach in 1985…

Anything special going on for this summer?

Always Shuckin’ along and trying Our best to bring and keep Sliders Oyster Bar to a standard that keeps Us in the conversation of the best seafood and shellfish in the biz with locals, as well as all the new people moving here from all over the country…

With Leon Searcy one of the Jacksonville Jaguars all time faves.

What’s one thing (funny, different, cool) that many might not know about you?

I’m a true foodie at heart, and I enjoy re-plating and taking pictures of the food to promote and give exposure to everything and every place that We enjoy… I also try me best to perform random acts of kindness throughout me day to uplift everyone’s spirits along the way…

Johnny Pop with prior 90 Days Od Summer Community Icons Brenda Batteh Brown and husband, Kevin.

Any hobbies or interests worth telling us about?

With Malcolm Mahi Mahi at Safe Harbor Seafood Market!

I am self diagnosed with positive Tourette syndrome, and try Me best to give it to everyone that crosses my path, especially when I’ve had a couple to many… 🤣🤣🤣 Kind and positive gestures to everybody at first glance… As well as promoting and progressing the Best in everyone I meet…

How do you like living on the First Coast?

With Sliders owner, Chris Wooten and North Florida’s premiere Reggae Guru, King Eddie Pili Pili!

I Truly Love living here, and have seen such incredible growth in My 54 years… Lot’s of people moving here from all over the country, and most seemingly trying to acclimate to Our way of living… Amazed at how our great big city has remained such a small town vibe for most of my life… Movin’ rapidly the last five years or so…

Anything else that you would like to tell the community?

I know that we’ve all been going through unforeseen changes throughout recent years, and it has been very challenging for most of us, but I do feel an enlightenment reaching for greatness and forward progress with a living light that we all have in Us…

Suggest a Story: FCL is built on recommendations from the community; it’s how we uncover hidden gems, so when you or someone you know deserves recognition please let us know here.
