Lane Pittman may have become famous when the Neptune Beach Police Department arrested him for playing the National Anthem on the Fourth Of July in 2015, but Lane is much more than just “The Florida Man.” A pillar of the community at such a young age, Pittman is active in his church and professes nothing but patriotism, one of his many qualities that sometimes get overshadowed in the chaos of his international stardom. As humble as they come, Lane Pittman is an avid Jacksonville Jaguars fan, he loves living on the First Coast and he is truly an asset to this community.

What’s your name and what fills your time?

Lane Pittman. Lane Michael Poland Pittman is my name, but a lot of people have called me “Florida Man” as of about 8 years ago. I went viral for American things in 2015 and 2016. Some of my earliest memories are growing up on South St. in Neptune Beach though. After my mom met my stepdad (who I consider my actual dad after he adopted me), we moved to the Isle of Palms in Jax Beach.

I’ve been at the beach most of my life, attending Fletcher Middle and High, but now I live in East Arlington, about 5min from the beaches. I wish I could afford a property out there but the prices are just too dang high!

Is anything special going on for this summer?

The summer has been super busy for me. I have a small media company where I fly drones, and do real estate vids/pics, interviews, and many other things. Thankfully, that has taken a ton of my time up. My band KSICK is wrapping up an EP we recorded in February and my other band Wait What plans on recording 5-7 songs in September with Patrick Taylor in Mayport. Besides that, I’m taking a trip to Glacier National Park in August for my birthday! I’m fired up. I’m starting a tradition with a couple of friends to hit a National Park every summer now.

Any hobbies or interests worth telling us about?

Hobbies these days have turned into work in an awesome way. Video and pics were always a hobby until I learned how to do it from a professional standpoint. I LOVE working with construction companies. Within the past year, I have had the privilege to document a ton of content for the Pratt Guys. They are easily one of my favorite companies I shoot for and they are as real as it gets!!

Not a lot of people know about that side of me though. I don’t advertise a ton. I’m typically word-of-mouth. I have a website but haven’t touched it in a few years. As far as music goes, I play whenever I can. Whether it’s with my own bands, solo, or filling in, I’m always down to rip! Music is one of the best joys God has given us. Never quit!

What’s one thing (funny, different, cool) that many might not know about you?

Well, as stated in the first question, I actually have two middle names. My dad adopted me when I was like 5 or something. I totally didn’t know I had a second middle name, which used to be my original last name, until about the 7th grade! It blew my mind!

How do you like living on the First Coast?

I said for YEARS that the beaches here were a hidden gem. It’s definitely not so hidden anymore. The good parts about the beaches are still here because a lot of my friends still live here. It’s more about them versus what’s here if that makes sense. A lot of the local places I loved going to have changed in the past 5 years or so. I used to get super mad about that but it just is what it is when you get a crazy influx of people moving here. I’ll be really sad to see Adventure Landing go though. I always wanted to take my future kids there but now it’s not looking like that will happen.

Anything else that you would like to tell the community?

Embrace the beaches. Don’t look to change it so much. We had a good thing going here for a long, long time. I know everything changes eventually over time, it just feels like it happened so fast! I’m sounding old!

Suggest a Story: FCL is built on recommendations from the community; it’s how we uncover hidden gems, so when you or someone you know deserves recognition please let us know here.
