Mitch Kaufmann, often referred to as “The Mayor” has served the First Coast community for over thirty years through his video production business, his time as Director of the Eastern Surfing Association and as an advocate for keeping the Jacksonville Beaches a “people friendly” community.

My name is Mitch Kaufmann.
My days are pretty much the same all year around 365 days a year. If there are no waves, I work. Like any good dad, my main priority is making sure my son (dog) Marley is happy.

I have owned Atlantic Video Productions for Over 35 years and I offer every aspect of production. From TV commercials and Corporate promotional videos to transferring all of your old formats to present-day technology.

It’s one of those rare scenarios where I feel like I’ve never worked a day in my life because I love it so much.

I also work with Dick Rosborough and Sunrise Surf Shop designing and promoting Rozo Surfboards. I was part of the production team in Hawaii in the early 80s and then here, until my Video business took off around 1988.

Anything special going on for this summer?

This summer has been very busy with work and surprisingly enough, the waves have been at least Longboardable almost every day, with a few really good size days. Dance recitals always keep me busy in the summer, but this year was an especially big load. After Covid, the dance schools are filling back up and the recitals seem to be going a little longer. I’ve also been doing a lot of Drone work in the real estate business.

Any hobbies or interests worth telling us about?

As I’m getting older, I’m trying to do as much yoga as I can, along with my daily heavy bag workouts, So I can continue surfing as long as possible, hopefully into my 80s. Sometimes I joke around that I only do video production so my mom thinks I have a job.

What’s the best part of living here on the First Coast?

In my opinion, this is the best place in the world to grow up and live. It’s safe. It’s affordable. It’s friendly. It’s still has that small town feel, even though the local politicians are trying to ruin that. There are tons of great restaurants. And the surf gets really good here, just not as often as we’d like. But the airport is only 30 minutes away.
