Eve Baker Prescott
I’m very fortunate to have my days filled with family, friends, and community. Our family lived here when I was small, but moved south. I spent my impressionable growing up years living in South Florida, spending wonderful days with great friends on Ft. Lauderdale beach. We moved to Atlantic Beach in high school where I finished up at Fletcher. I was fortunate enough to make new friends and learn to surf, which became my passion. After college and working as a professional dancer, and a good bit of travel, I came back, married, had children and opened Sun Dog Diner with my first husband David. And very happy to be back home!
Anything special going on for this summer?
I have recently remarried a wonderful man, Chris Prescott. This summer we are focusing on our new career in Real Estate, while organizing our home base after the last of my 4 children have graduated college and flown the nest. They left boxes of many treasures for me to decide what to do with. (We call it Keep, No Keep.) We are hoping to get some traveling in, though.. somewhere cooler.
Any hobbies or interests worth telling us about?
Surfing was always a big part of my life, before children, so Chris and I are hoping to get back in the water this summer. Photography is also a love of mine. Luckily we live in paradise with so much beauty to document. Last year, I started a new neighborhood project based on the Blue Zone concept of service to community and connecting with neighbors, a longevity factor. I had visited my mother, Martha Baker, and interviewed her three 95-100 year old spunky table mates at her Senior Living home. Their answers were varied as to what accounted for their longevity. However they carried the common theme of face to face human connection In Person!! (Not on social media) Also, they were involved in the Parrish idea of helping those in need, sharing their crops, providing to those in need. Currently our ‘driveway gatherings’ include bringing donations for BEAM.
What’s one thing (funny, different, cool) that many might not know about you?
Before I was married with children, I was a professional dancer. I was lucky enough to work for a wonderful friend until I was 21, who invited me back to work with him, this time on cruise ships, when I was 60 years old! Before that I managed to keep dance alive by teaching dance and fitness to adults and children here . I am passionate about helping others learn to stay healthy.
One of the unusual things I did was to create a Children’s Benefit Production group (Atlantic Beach Children for Peace…ABC4 ☮️) from gathering children in the neighborhood to do shows starting at Christmas then adding seasonal productions to benefit different groups like the Donner Park Christmas toy giveaway, and two different animal rescue centers. I was fortunate enough to be able to choreograph and produce these events for 6 years, with my children and incredible kids from the neighborhood. They learned skills of many kinds..especially how to give and being of service. I am thankful every day for family, neighbors and friends, and hope to continue to find new, fun ways to help keep our community positive and thriving.
How do you like living on the First Coast?
I guess it’s obvious I love where I live! I feel so blessed and grateful to be part of such a special area, where ‘legacy neighbors’ blend with wonderful new neighbors so beautifully.
Anything else that you would like to tell the community?
Start your own neighborhood Blue Zone event! You’ll be surprised to find you have incredible neighbors who want to help others just like you do. And you’ll live longer as a bonus. We are lucky to have so much love right at our fingertips ❤️
