Welcome to 90 Days Of Summer! What’s your name and what fills your time?
My name is Sherri Koslow. I grew up in a Military family and moved here when my dad was stationed in Mayport in 1975. I went to Fletcher from ninth through twelfth grades and have always loved it here. Since high school I have worked at Stricklands, I was a lifeguard at the Mayport Naval Base, I worked at Le Chateau, and I worked at JAX Liquors back in the day when they had curb service!
What a trip those days were! I went into the Marine Corp in 1983 and after the Marines I worked for the Duval County School Board. I’ve certainly made a lot of friends in my life and friends from all walks of life.
Anything special going on for this summer?
I work for Liberty Bail Bonds downtown now, and that takes up most of my time! I love my job, and it can get pretty tiring sometimes, but when good people need help and their families are frantic to help them, it’s very rewarding to see the love of family and to feel appreciation of what we do. The sense of community covers a wide spectrum of meanings and I am blessed to get to help people in need.
How do you like living on the First Coast?
I absolutely love living here! My family is here and I have so many friends here. We have an unbelievably cool music scene in North Florida and I’ve been blessed to get to know so many of the musicians who put Jacksonville on the music map. Throw in the beach environment, the many ways to enjoy the water boating, eating at restaurants on the water, I mean there is just so much really cool stuff about our community I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
Any hobbies or interests worth telling us about?
I guess my main hobby is watching UFC fights and Combat Night on Saturdays. My son is an MMA fighter (with a really good record I might add!) so Saturdays at my house are usually very busy and always with a crowd of competition fighters hanging out! And that goes for both girls and boys fighters!
Anything else that you would like to tell the community?
I would say to the community that we should tell the people we love that we love them and tell them often and with sincerity and with conviction. Life can throw some funny curve balls at us and we never know what tomorrow holds. Please be kind to one another and when you have the opportunity, commit random acts of kindness. It will surely make the world a better place!
