Susan Snodgrass. I’m a retired physician (Diagnostic Radiologist), having worked at UF Health until retirement. I have one fantastic son, Harris Snodgrass, who is married and he and Carleigh have twin sons.
My family moved to Jacksonville in 1958, when my father, an anesthesiologist, joined the Medical Group at St. Vincents, ultimately becoming the Chief of Anesthesia there. If I am not mistaken, we were probably one of the first Filipino families in the city at that time. I and my 7 brothers and sisters all went to Assumption and Bishop Kenny (with the exception of my oldest brother who went to Bolles when it was a Military Academy). I went to JU for college and was on the cheerleading squad during the glory years of basketball for the JU Dolphins. I was married for thirty years to Bob Snodgrass of Brumos Motorcars until his death in 2007. I remarried in 2012 to Henry Wilkinson from Asheville, North Carolina, and as it turned out, Henry and Bob actually had been acquaintances through the automobile racing world long before I met Henry! God certainly works in mysterious ways!
This summer has been spent enjoying life at the beach, learning how to play American Mahjong with neighbors (it’s really amazing to keep one’s brain active!), spending time with my wonderful 3-year-old twin grandsons, Cooper and Hunter, interspersed with trips to Asheville, North Carolina where we maintain a second home, New Hampshire to visit friends, New York City to see Broadway shows and various trips to California for automobile activities. Most recently a 1250-mile road rally through Southern California and a trip to Carmel/Monterey for automobile races and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Anyone who knows me knows that dance has always been my passion, having danced Ballet much of my life, even teaching Ballet and Pointe for many years while still working full-time at the hospital. Recently I was asked to participate in the Beaches Fine Arts Series‘ major fundraiser, Dancing With The Stars being held September 21st, so I pulled the cobwebs off my dance shoes and have been trying to get these old bones moving again. However, no one could have prepared me for how difficult and different ballroom dancing was from ballet! For the first time, I truly feel like I have two left feet!!
One thing people may not know about me is that I do have a motorcycle license! While married to Bob we thought it would be great to ride motorcycles together (he was a huge enthusiast!) The day I received my license, I came home to find a beautiful new motorcycle in the driveway. We started our first ride on our individual bikes. Then Bob made the mistake of passing me at high speed rather abruptly, which caused my bike to falter a little, truly scaring me… I made a U-turn, drove home, parked my bike and told him to sell it. And to this day I have never ridden on a motorcycle solo again!
Jacksonville has always been home to me, but in 2012 Henry and I moved to Atlantic Beach and have never regretted it one bit. We both love the ease and pace of life here, love our fabulous neighbors and neighborhood and we find looking out on the beach daily a constantly changing beautiful site. We are never bored! And having the Beaches Town Center so close is a major perk with the great restaurant choices since I can’t cook!
Be kind to one another and enjoy all the beautiful things life has to offer!
