Hello, my name is Mr Izzy and I currently live in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Brevard, NC. I turn 20 years old this month, which is equivalent to about 97 human years. I have been around. I have lived in several states and more than several cities. Being born in Charleston, SC and spent my years in Columbia, SC and Jacksonville. I’m considered to be a domestic shorthair.
My vet lists me as a “feral” cat since I was found abandoned at 3 weeks old and raised on an eyedropper. He says once feral always feral. I think that means I value my independence and I don’t need a lot of attention.
My first master was a college student and she found me in the bushes between classes as my mother had died an unexpected death. She took me in and cared for me 24/7 till my eyes opened and I could eat regular cat food. I now live in a mountain cabin with lots of windows, each room has its own special view. I have my favorite rooms in various places where I can bask in the sun and watch all the mountain critters scurry by my windows.
At my age, I’m fairly laid back and not much bothers me. I do have my favorite foods. Of late, I no longer like dry cat food. I prefer wet with my favorite variety being chicken. Chicken grilled, chicken pate, chicken with gravy, it’s all good as long as it’s chicken. I’m seldom naughty anymore. At 20 years old, I’m just chillaxing most days.
My favorite thing to do is wake up my master, Papa John exactly at 5:45 am each and every morning. I climb up next to him, in bed, and touch his beard with my paw. I also purr loudly announcing I need to start my day with a decent breakfast. My owners are retired, so I get to see a lot of them. I’m most thankful that Papa John’s daughter found me and took me in.
The first couple of years I had a hard go of it, but I persevered and showed everyone that cats truly do have 9 lives. When I was three I had an encounter with a wild animal and I wore a cone around my head for almost 6 months. You have to believe in each other. I think the love and care that was shown to me in my early years contributed to my longevity. I’m so glad that I was rescued and shown the care that I needed.
