Beaches Go Green JUNE, 2020

Friends…

This month, Beaches Go Green celebrated 2 years of environmental awareness & education in our beach community! We could not do it without the hard work, support & funding of our very small paid & volunteer staff, our event volunteers, partner organizations & local beach cities. THANK YOU!

There are big changes happening in our world. Change can be difficult & sometimes even uncomfortable or scary. It’s been a challenge to keep environmental education relevant as it competes with other important issues & changes. On the upside, we have seen improvements to our planet in places where the human footprint has temporarily subsided due to quarantine. On the downside, we have seen the harm in the increased consumption of single-use plastic & disposable items due to the fear of spreading germs. Normal still seems so far away and there are sure to be more changes to come.

Beaches Go Green continues to push out educational content through our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn & Youtube channel @beachesgogreen in hopes of reaching as many unique individuals & groups as we can. In addition, we print weekly educational “ads” in the Ponte Vedra/Beaches Leader. Internally, we have been focusing on processes & personal development, as well as, trying new things. We have compiled new video series like our “Be the Change” videos, “for the Greater Good” videos & “Changes for Earth Day” videos.

We hosted virtual “Ask us Anything” Happy Hour on Facebook and Instagram. And created #WaderWednesday clean-ups to stay active and clean up our local waterways! Last but not least, we have been enjoying nature to reset and keep our sanity!

There is still a lot of work to be done and this is where you come in… We need people who care about the health of the planet to put their beliefs into every day action. We need our local businesses, cities & leaders to make a stand for the environment. Let’s effectively communicate what we want and expect in our community in terms of environmental health. Let’s encourage & support EACH OTHER in stepping up, being bold and making REAL changes.

We hope to continue to inspire you to #BETHECHANGE and choose ACTION over INACTION! Small changes can add up to BIG things!
