St. Marys, Georgia, is a delightful and quaint town, perfect for a fun getaway. Located about an hour north of Jacksonville, Florida, it offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Our visit to this charming town was filled with warm encounters, scenic beauty, and culinary delights, making it a memorable experience.
As we arrived in St. Marys, the first thing that caught our eye was a small farmers market. The streets, lined with historic homes and shaded by massive trees, created an inviting atmosphere. The people were incredibly friendly and eager to chat and share stories about their town.
At the market, we found a stall selling organic dog treats, which our dog adored. This small gesture added a personal touch to our visit, making us feel like part of the community.
The town’s location, surrounded by water and situated on the Atlantic Ocean, adds to its charm. One of the highlights that we noted, though we didn’t partake in this visit, is the ferry to Cumberland Island. This island, once the home of Thomas Carnegie’s family, now offers a unique hiking experience and the chance to see wild horses grazing around historic ruins. It’s definitely on our list for next time!
When it was time to eat, we were spoilt for choice with numerous cute restaurants in St. Marys. We decided to try a food truck that came highly recommended and enjoyed our lunch at a picnic table in the shade. The empanadas were delicious, perfectly complementing the relaxed and laid-back vibe of the town.
As we wandered around, we were captivated by the lovely homes that lined the streets. The architectural beauty and charm of these residences, each with its unique character, added to the town’s picturesque quality. We took photos of these homes to remember the quaint and serene ambiance they provided.
All in all, our day in St. Mary’s was filled with delightful surprises and peaceful moments. From the friendly locals and scenic surroundings to the tasty food, every part of our visit contributed to a sense of relaxation and refreshment. We returned home with fond memories and a renewed sense of calm, already planning our next trip to this charming little town.
